The
Waters Of Marah
By

“When they came to Marah they could not drink its water because it was bitter”
Exodus 15:23
“Marah” which means bitter can be compared to many of life’s
experiences as we journey through the wilderness of this world.
If you are like most people there probably
have been hardships in your life when you have asked the question, “Why has God
allowed this to happen?” As Christians
many of us have had Marah experiences. Recently, those bitter waters touched my own
life when I lost my dear mother and sister.
These were painful times but God’s grace proved to be sufficient. God promises us in Isaiah. 43:2, “When you
pass through the waters I will be with you”, and in the Gospel of John Jesus
reminds us that although we may have troubles, to be encouraged because He has
overcome the world.
The
Israelites experienced the bitterness of Marah until
Moses, directed by God cast the tree into the waters making them sweet. Likewise, the cross of Jesus sweetens the
bitterness of our life’s trials. One day
God will wipe away all tears from our eyes!
Until then, our hope will remain secure if we put our trust in Him.
From
Marah, Israel traveled to Elim
where there were 12 wells and 70 trees, a place of beauty and rest. Therefore, God always rewards those who put
their faith in Him.
Prayer
Father,
we thank you for the blessings we have received even in times of sorrow. May your word strengthen our hearts as we
learn to trust you more.
