How
Generous Can You Be?
By

“A
generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25
Just a quick question: Are we generous? If so, how generous are we? The attribute of giving comes in many forms, as you know. Money, time, and possessions—all are considered avenues for valuable giving. And all have a valuable place in the space of our world. But I wonder how many of us realize how beautifully generous is the offer of a heartfelt prayer?
Over
the counter, the richness of reaching heaven’s ear via the communication of His
humble saints is a privilege that is simply…well, heavenly! As hands join and
hearts embrace, the plea of one soul in behalf of another plunges deep into a
realm only God Himself fully understands. Yet, in faith, we who believe in His
Word bring our sorrows, our petitions, our trials and triumphs, our questions
and most importantly our praises to the One Alone who holds the answers. He,
Himself, is the key to our prayers.
I’m
not sure any combination of words I know adequately describes the heat of
privileged emotion I feel when outstretched hands grasp mine, bringing
child-like trust to the throne, in the hope of hearing from heaven. In the
realm of my imagination I’m skipping across the Throne room in full view of our
Father-King. His outstretched arms catch me as I leap with full abandon into
His capable arms and He places me upon His knee. His endearing hug is one I’ve
experienced many times, and I melt in the security and comfort of it all. It’s
the feeling I get while watching clover-fresh creamery butter liquefy in the
heat of the sun—a honey-sweet surrender.
Let’s
seek out just one soul today who needs the help of a brother or sister to go
into the spiritual realm of the Heavenlys to aid in the petition of prayer.
Hold hands, yes! Hold hands and allow your hearts to meld together for a few
prayerful moments before our Most Glorious Father. Let’s spill our basket of
woes before Him as we praise His Holy Name. Let’s be generous with our praise
to the One who is worthy. He’s waiting…forever patiently waiting. He longs to
hear from us today, and tomorrow, and the tomorrow after that. Let’s seek Him.
The
next time I see you from across the counter, let me help you with a valuable
resource from our shelves, and perhaps a valuable resource from my heart—the
generosity of a prayer.
