Massive blood loss dropped my blood pressure sending me into shock after our son’s birth. To save my life medical staff quickly lowered my head, elevated my feet and squeezed blood by hand into all four arms and legs. I lived because of quick action and life saving blood.
Regaining
consciousness, I was fiercely thirsty. Blood is mostly water. The blood I lost
was replaced but my cells were parched and dry, they screamed, “Water!”
Our
bodies are seventy five percent water. Water is the chief component of blood,
saliva, sweat, urine, even tissue.
Seventy
five percent of our planet is also water. We use it for energy, playing,
bathing, and drinking. We’d die without it.
Jesus
is called “spring of living water” in Jeremiah 17:13: “O LORD … those who
turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the
LORD, the spring of living water.” Just as natural man dies without water,
spirit man dies without “living water.” If we drink the water of Jesus by
repenting of sin and trusting him, he promises to satisfy our thirsting hearts.
Truth satisfies.
“…
whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give
him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14 “Whoever
believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will
flow from within him.” John 7:38
Wanna drink?
Jesus
spoke of eternal life with a Samaritan woman at a well. She intended to fill
her pot and quench her thirst. Surprise! She found “living water” for her whole
town. (John 4:5-42) Many Samaritans believed in Jesus when ‘truth water’ flowed
from her. She poured Jesus, “stream of living water” on them and they were
cleansed of sin and received eternal life. “I will sprinkle clean water on
you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and
from all your idols.” Ezekiel 36:35
The
Lord promises to save those who draw water from his wells of salvation,
satisfying us in drought and dry places. His water produces life in our
deserts.
Lucy
J Rider’s old song thrills me:
Ho!
Every one that is thirsty in spirit,
Ho!
Every one that is weary and sad,
Come
to the fountain, there’s fullness in Jesus,
All
that you’re longing for, come and be glad.
I
will pour water on him who is thirsty,
I
will pour floods upon the dry ground;
Open
your heart for the gift I am bringing,
While
ye are seeking Me, I will be found.
Are
we thirsty for Truth? Let’s meet Jesus at His well as the Samaritan did. He’ll
pour His water and life saving blood into our dry lives. We’ll become a spring
of water…loving, praying, telling others of the only Spring that provides
eternal life.
Jesus, I believe you are the Water welling up
to eternal life. I am thirsty. Come, bring me life. Amen.
