The Christian Journal staff is
anxious and willing to help you begin your own Christian newspaper in
your town, county or state. We believe that there is a great need to
share the “good news” of Jesus with people in this country.
Often these people will not step inside a church, so the message needs
to come to the streets.
The purpose of The Christian Journal has been to give a Christian message
of encouragement, inspiration and networking that will not only build
up the body of Christ, but reach out to those who are not Christians.
Perhaps as they read the articles of hope on various topics they will
want to become part of the Christian community.
The Christian Journal staff has a large supply of newspaper templates
on various topics that can be easily adjusted to meet the needs of new
communities and new newspaper businesses. The staff can take these templates,
rearrange the articles to the desires of the new paper, insert local
advertising and local articles, editorials, etc.
Since The Christian Journal is a “topical” paper it is not
easily outdated. It has a shelf life that long outlives the monthly
date on the paper. This is important for local advertisers to get the
most for their dollar and for slow distribution points.
So…how to start your own paper?
Follow these steps.
1. Pray and see if God is calling you to begin
a new Christian newspaper to reach your area.
2. Seek a small group of advisors to make sure your thinking is in line
with others. You will need their support as the venture plays out.
3. Find a local printer who can print newsprint and get a bid for your
paper. Get a bid for 8, 12, 16 and 20 pages to start.
4. Create a budget for what it will take to print, distribute, layout,
pay commissions, tithe, phone expenses, office expenses, bookkeeping,
etc.
5. Once you have a budget you will know how much advertising you will
need to pull in to cover the expenses of the paper. You can get an idea
of what to charge by checking with other local publications and their
advertising costs.
6. Set a date for the printing of your first paper. You will want to
consider if your paper will be quarterly, bi-monthly or monthly. It
takes more work to be monthly, but there are more opportunities for
advertising.
7. Work with the staff at The Christian Journal to help you put together
your publication. The staff will design your publication to your personal
needs. You can pick a topic and The Christian Journal staff will find
articles from our archives that will meet your needs. You can create
your own editorials and other content. The Christian Journal staff will
place your ads in the paper. The Christian Journal will be responsible
to get a PDF file to your local printer to be able to print your paper.
8. Pick up your paper and begin to distribute it to local churches,
Christian businesses and other retail locations.
