“Lord,
we really appreciate all the salmon, but could we please have some other kind
of meat?”
My
husband and I were ministering on Canada’s west coast. Our low salary was often supplemented by
generous donations of fresh salmon – which I learned to bake, fry, and mince in
sandwiches, loaves, casseroles, patties, and balls.
When
I couldn’t swallow one more bite of pink flesh, I knelt down and blurted out my
protest. Didn’t James 4:2 (NIV) say,
“You do not have, because you do not ask God?”
The following Sunday, a woman handed me a ten-dollar bill after the church service. “For meat,” she said. And a deacon’s wife gave us a bag loaded with roasts and steaks! Coincidence? I don’t think so. I had simply asked – and God had simply answered. We don’t always get exactly what we pray for, but sometimes we do – much to our, and our Father’s, delight.
