Being
A Good & Faithful Servant
By
Stephanie Meza
The
parable in Matthew 25:14-30 is about a master who entrusted his three servants
with his talents of money while he went away on a journey.
When
the master returned he rewarded the two servants who invested his money wisely
calling them good and faithful servants.
He called the last servant, who was unwise, wicked and lazy and had him
physically thrown out.
Have
we given thought to the talents and money God has placed us steward over?
I
personally thought I was doing a good job.
Since 1997 I have worked as an investment advisor for a national
investment firm. I also started my own independent investment firm, all the while maintaining
a spotless compliance record.
But,
it wasn’t until I met a representative of Faith Financial Advisors, a Christian
and Biblical based financial advising group, did I realize I had missed the
boat and wasn’t being a wise steward over what God had entrusted to me.
I had unknowingly invested in companies that were involved in industries that are contrary to
our Christian values including abortion, pornography, tobacco and
gambling. In addition, some of the
companies had corporate policies which provided financial assistance to support
radical gay and lesbian political organizations.
I
began to ask if the Lord would be pleased with using His funds this way. In my
heart I felt the answer was NO.
I
learned that we do have another option. There is a way for Christians to invest that
allows for the opportunity to eliminate or reduce exposure to companies that
are contrary to Christian values. I
believe the Lord wants us to invest what He has given us to make it grow to
support His Kingdom work. This morally responsible way of investing allows us
to take a stand and honor God's Word and kingdom, by NOT PARTICIPATING in the
ways of this world.
This
past February, I joined Faith Financial Advisors. I wanted to put my faith to work and not only
use my funds wisely, but help others find ways to use theirs wisely. In addition, I’ve become a certified
instructor to teach the Biblical Stewardship Series to church congregations and
other Christian groups who would like to “reboot” their way of thinking when it
comes to money and the worldly influences.
My
ministry with is to help all who inquire, whether penniless or worth millions,
become the best steward over what God has entrusted to each, so that one day
the Lord can say to us all, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
