A
Gift From God
By

”So
I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock,
and it will be opened to you.” Luke 11:9
I
asked God for a birthday gift, a verse to use for the next year. I wanted to
know it came from Him, and not one I’d thought up on my own.
A
week later, I received a Birthday card from a friend. Printed at the bottom of
the first page was Luke 11:9. Across the top of the verse she had written,
“Your verse for the year.” I laughed with joy. God had answered my prayer.
A
few days later I talked to her on the phone.
“Did
I tell you that I’d asked God for a verse?”
“No,”
she replied. “God impressed on me to send you Luke 11:9 for your birthday. I
felt silly about sending it to you. When I found a birthday card with that
verse, I said, ‘All right God, I’ll send it.’”
I
told her what I’d asked God for, and how He had used her card to answer my
request. We both rejoiced.
After
we said good-bye, I thanked my Lord for His awesome gift. I felt amazed at His
wonderful creative power. God surprised me, though I shouldn’t have been. After all, He did say, “Ask, and it will be
given to you.”
