The Revolve Tour

Touching Teen Girls For God

By Nancy Canwell

What is it like to be a teenage girl in 2009? The answer is—it’s tough.

·         1 in 5 teen girls has been physically or sexually abused by her dating partner

·         Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for teens

·         30% of teen girls have posted/sent nude or semi-nude messages

·         More than 200,000 teen girls had plastic surgery last year1

The mothers of these teens sent a cry for help to the well-known organization, Women of Faith. They came to their conferences asking, “Won’t you do something to help our teen girls?” And so they did. In 2005 they launched the Revolve Tour. After extensive research on what would be relevant topics for teenage girls, they hit the road with a high-energy tour that includes speakers, concerts, and drama.

Popular speaker and author Chad Eastman says of the tour, “It’s designed to communicate to teen girls that God loves them, just as they are, and to draw them into a life-changing relationship with him. We’ve intentionally created the weekend to be an opportunity to invite girls who may either be deeply involved with church or not open to it at all. Everyone can have fun, be encouraged, and reminded that they are valuable, and God loves them.”2

Revolve seems to be getting its message out—and the girls are listening. When a group of girls who have attended the tour in Portland, OR were asked, “What did you learn from Revolve?” here’s what they said:

Leah from Snohomish, WA: “Guys like girls who respect themselves.”

KaiLana from Longview, WA: “How to be real.”

Lexi, also from Longview: “How to leave all my burdens with God…no matter what they are.”

Kylee from Battleground, WA: “It doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, because it’s all about the inside.”

Karly from Clackamas, OR: “Guys appreciate girls who appreciate themselves.”

Krystal, also from Clackamas: “God the Father can fill in the gap for my dad who isn’t around much.”

In contrast to the negative statistics above, since the Revolve Tour began in 2005, more than 27,000 of the 313,000-plus girls who have attended indicated they made a first-time decision for Jesus at the event they attended.

If you have a teenage daughter, or know and love a teen girl, why not sponsor her to the next Revolve Tour? It’s coming to Portland, Oregon on November 13-14, 2009 at the Rose Garden Arena. Tickets can be purchased at revolvetour.com.

Here are some of the event highlights: Speakers: Chad Eastman, author of The Truth About Guys, Guys Like Girls Who… and Guys are Waffles Girls are Spaghetti, and Jenna Lucado; Music: Stellar Kart, Britt Nicole, Group 1 Crew, and the Revolve Praise Band; Revolve Drama Team; and other speakers and singers.

It’s worth the expense, the travel, and the time. How do I know? I’ve taken my own teenage daughter for the past two years—and we’re going back again this year.
