Physical
and Spiritual Hunger

He
had sat on the sidewalk in the same place for days, remembering better times.
His bed was in the adjacent alley. $3.62 in donations would hardly buy one good
meal, let alone feed him for another week. Today would be different.
He
was summoned him over to an outdoor table. The kind stranger invited him to
sit, then quickly handed him a take-out meal. Trying not to gobble as tears
washed his cheeks, he sat listening to the calming voice as this visitor
recited words from The Holy Bible. They were words he had heard as a child.
His
stomach filled with the warm food as his heart began to listen to the words of
a God he had barely known. He had lost all faith when tragedy hit, but now he
was being renewed both physically and spiritually. As the stranger told him
that Jesus loves us no matter what our circumstances are, his eyes filled with
the excitement of being born again.
His
hunger for Jesus increased as they conversed. Eventually, he held his new
friend's hand and began to thank Christ for not forgetting him. "Thank
you, Lord, for sending this man to call me to You. Please forgive my sins and
be my Savior. This man is no longer a stranger to me but a brother in
You."
Lord
Jesus, give each of us the compassion to love our brothers. Help us to share
Your earthly wealth and You Holy Word with others each day. Amen.
